Our Brilliant Project Contributors
We know time is precious and expertise priceless. So many talented, bright, successful people
have given so passionately. Since our founding in 2013, the project has recruited and inspired a
community of institutions and professionals across architecture, human-centered design,
engineering consultants, builders, legal, and web design.
Our group came together to change the future of living at home with physical challenges.
Together they are committed to 21st century goals of motion, well-being, and improvement in
an optimized living environment remarkably different than the antiquated concepts driving
current house design -- consider how much the phone or the car has changed in 100 years versus the house.
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives
and are willing to take risks. The AHP emerged out of a pursuit to create a living environment
that adapted to the changing needs of its physically challenged inhabitants. We are a 501C3
organization driven by body and mind-based ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support.

With forty years devoted to movement, wellness, and fitness science—and insights gained from her MS experience—Mary has shattered the paradigm for supporting aging, degenerative disease, accessibility, and long-term health at home. She is pioneering a new model of living spaces that are accessibly adaptable and truly add life to your years.

John Ottenheimer
Architect, Designer, and Visionary in the Frank Lloyd Wright Tradition
With more than seventy years of architectural experience, John Ottenheimer brings a rare depth of design wisdom to the Adaptable House . John spent much of his 70 year career as an architect working with Frank Lloyd Wright in a creative practice spanning architecture, design, art, and invention. After apprenticing with Wright at Taliesin in Wisconsin and Arizona, John contributed to landmark projects including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Marin County Civic Center, and the Greek Church in Milwaukee. A lifelong experimenter and craftsman, he has designed everything from town plans to bridges and passive solar homes in his signature Organic Architecture Northwest style. Founder of Western Star Farm and holder of a U.S. patent for the Crossflow Wind Turbine, Ottenheimer continues to explore the intersection of nature, form, and philosophy through design. John’s work embodies elegance, craftsmanship, and environmental sensitivity. His enduring commitment to organic, sustainable
design continues to inspire the project’s vision for adaptable, human-centered living.
Stan Chiu
Architect, Human Centered Designer
Stan AIA,DBIA, LEED AP and Integrated Project Delivery, bringing more than 30 years of experience advancing how buildings serve people and
communities. As Director of Integrated Design at HDR, Stan applies his deep expertise in collaboration, and human-centered design to reimagine how living spaces can evolve over time—meeting the changing needs of individuals and families while reducing environmental impact.
Throughout his career, Stan has led complex, high-performance projects for clients including the University of California, Sutter Health, Samsung, UHS, and the Mayo Clinic. A passionate
advocate for respect for people and continuous improvement, he has been a driving force in advancing Lean Design principles across the architecture and construction industries. Stan’s thought leadership has been featured in Architectural Record, Fast Company, and the New York Times, and he has lectured extensively on topics ranging from prefabrication to the
future of healthcare and housing. His projects have received numerous honors, including National AIA and SCUP awards for design excellence. He holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, and has served on numerous professional and institutional boards where he helps shape national discourse around collaboration and innovation in the built environment.
Anne Van Leynseele
Author-Farmer- Lawyer
Anne is an author, farmer, and lawyer whose career bridges industries and continents. She began in Los Angeles’ film and television scene, where she founded, built, and sold a successful production company before transitioning into international business development and corporate strategy. Her consulting work took her across the Pacific Rim, advising Fortune 100 companies on digital communication strategies and operational efficiency.
After earning her law degree, Anne served as an Attorney Advisor in the first Obama Administration, then founded a boutique law firm that helped establish the legal framework for recreational cannabis in Washington State—later influencing national policy. Her debut book, Cultivating Crime: The Dark Side of Legal Marijuana, exposes corruption and gender bias within the cannabis industry and legal system.
Her second book, Savor Your Chocolate, blends her love of farming and food, sharing how 100% cacao can elevate everyday cooking—an insight born from her life on a cacao farm on Hawaii’s Big Island. Anne’s current projects include Preferment, a visionary approach to redefining retirement, and The Adaptable House Project, inspired by her triathlon coach Mary Meyer and her commitment to quality aging. When she’s not writing or advising, Anne mentors at-risk youth, surfs, travels, and manages several companies—including an award-winning international chocolate enterprise.
David Chambers
Architect, Innovator, and Leader in Integrated Healthcare Design
David, AIA, ACHA, EDAC is a healthcare innovator who bridges architecture, operations, and organizational design to create environments that elevate patient care and performance.
Chambers seeks to unlock the tacit knowledge and collaborative potential of key process stakeholders through visualizing how they might work together in optimized, multidisciplinary processes designed to produce complete outcomes by transforming complex processes into integrated, high-performing systems. His background combining design thinking with operational strategy to achieve breakthrough clinical outcomes is invaluable in the design of the Adaptable House Project.
Over his career, David has guided the planning, design, and delivery of billions of dollars in acute and ambulatory care centers, medical office buildings, and healthcare support facilities. His book, Efficient Healthcare – Overcoming Broken Paradigms (Second Edition), explores how to reimagine the healthcare design process to achieve human-centered, lean, and efficient results. Today, David partners with organizations worldwide to drive transformational change in healthcare, facility design, and project delivery.
